Man charged after car thefts and break-ins, NSW

A man has been charged after alleged vehicle thefts and aggravated break and enters in the state’s south.

On Wednesday (2 January 2019), a Toyota Landcruiser was stolen from Gundagai.

It’s alleged yesterday (Thursday 3 January 2019), a 21-year-old man used the vehicle to attend numerous properties in the Tabletop area near Albury to steal property.

He also allegedly stole a Nissan Qashqai, which he began using interchangeably with the Landcruiser to attend properties and steal items.

Whilst he was stealing property from an address on Perryman’s Lane, Table Top, he was interrupted by a 49-year-old man returning home.

He fled the scene in the Landcruiser and was pursued by the resident. Whilst driving parallel to the Landcruiser, the 21-year-old allegedly threatened the older man with a spear gun.

The vehicles then collided and younger man was detained.

Police attended and the man was taken to Albury Police Station where he was charged with take and drive conveyance (x3), aggravated enter dwelling with intent (ABH assault), drive manner dangerous, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, use weapon to avoid apprehension, and carry spear gun in public likely to injure person.

He was refused bail to appear at Albury Local Court today (Friday 4 January 2019).
