Man charged after pursuit; firearm and stolen property recovered – Dubbo

A man will face court today charged with multiple offences after a police pursuit in the states Central West yesterday.

About 3.25pm (Sunday 3 September 2023), officers from Orana Mid-Western Police District received information regarding the location of a 25-year-old man – wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant for domestic violence related offences – and attended a service station on the Mitchell Highway, Narromine, approximately 40km west of Dubbo.

On arrival, the man drove off and when police attempted to stop the vehicle, it failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated.

During the pursuit, police deployed road spikes on two separate occasions while the vehicle was monitored by PolAir.

As the vehicle was travelling west along Dandaloo Road, Narromine, it has driven off the road through three fences into paddocks where a rifle was allegedly seen being thrown from the vehicle.

The vehicle came to a stop in the paddock where the man has refused to get out. He was removed from the vehicle and arrested.

During a search of the vehicle, officers allegedly seized 17.6g of methamphetamine, a machete and clothing items believed to have been stolen.

The rifle – reportedly stolen during a break and enter at Gilgandra in 2020 – was recovered.

Inquiries also established that the man was the holder of a learner’s licence, and the vehicles registration did not match the vehicle it was fitted to along with it being unregistered

The 25-year-old man was taken to Dubbo Police Station and charged with 19 offences including:

  • Two counts of police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously,
  • goods in personal custody suspected being stolen,
  • learner exceed speed more than 45km/h – estimated,
  • learner not accompanied by driver/police officer/tester,
  • learner not display “L” plates as prescribed,
  • use unregistered motor vehicle on road,
  • use uninsured motor vehicle,
  • possess prohibited drug,
  • supply prohibited drug – indictable quantity,
  • destroy or damage property,
  • dishonestly obtain property by deception,
  • use vehicle with unauthorised number plate affixed,
  • possess unregistered firearm in public place,
  • possess unauthorised firearm,
  • face blackened/disguised with intent to commit indictable offence,
  • carry cutting weapon upon apprehension,
  • commit s114, having previous conviction, and
  • hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty.

The outstanding warrant was also executed and the man was refused bail to appear before Dubbo Local Court today (Monday 4 September 2023).
