Man charged after shots allegedly fired in Mildura attempted armed robbery

Mildura Crime Investigation Unit detectives have charged a man after a firearm was discharged into a house in Mildura in an alleged attempted armed robbery earlier this week.

Investigators had been told three offenders, one in possession of a firearm and two of whom were wearing balaclavas, forced entry to a residence at Hornsey Park, Mildura, about 2.50am on Tuesday 6 February.

The group demanded cash from the occupant of the property before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.

Three offenders returned to the property about 10.50pm and made further demands.

This time the occupants of the house ran and called police.

A shot was fired into the property before the offenders fled the scene.

Local detectives with the assistance of the Fugitive Taskforce, Armed Crime Squad Detectives, members of the Special Operations Group and other specialist units, executed a warrant at a Kalimna Drive address on Friday where 27-year-old Mildura man was taken into custody.

He has subsequently been charged with aggravated home invasion, armed robbery, attempted armed robbery as well as firearms and assault-related offences.

He has been remanded in custody to face Mildura Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 12 February.

Investigations to identify and locate the others involved in the incident remain ongoing.
