A man has been charged following an incident with police at Campbelltown yesterday, as a critical incident investigation continues.
Just before 2.45pm (Wednesday 15 May 2019), officers from the Police Transport Command were speaking with the man near Campbelltown Railway Station when an altercation occurred.
The man allegedly challenged officers with a knife on Hurley Street, outside the railway station.
Police deployed a taser, however he continued to threaten police, before being shot.
The man was taken to Liverpool Hospital under police guard suffering a single gunshot wound to his stomach area.
He remains in a critical but stable condition.
Today (Thursday 16 May 2019), the 39-year-old man was charged with wound person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, use offensive weapon to prevent lawful detention, and travel or attempt travel without valid ticket.
He has been refused bail and the matter is expected to be heard at Liverpool Local Court tomorrow (Friday 17 May 2019).
The critical incident investigation continues. That investigation will be subject to independent review.
