Man charged following alleged police pursuit during Operation RAID – Albury

A man has been charged following an alleged police pursuit in the State’s south.

About 11pm yesterday (Thursday 5 September), officers attached to the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command were conducting RBT on Wodonga Place, Albury.

Police attempted to stop a Ford Focus, which was allegedly unregistered, however when the driver failed to stop a pursuit was initiated.

A short time later, the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle before hitting a tree on Victoria Street, Albury.

The 31-year-old driver was arrested at the scene and subjected to roadside breath test, which returned a positive reading.

Police searched the vehicle and located and seized a gun, two knives and ammunition from the car.

The man was taken to Albury Police Station, where a breath analysis was conducted and retuned an alleged reading of 0.067.

He was charged with 9 offences

– Police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously

– Drive with low range PCA

– Custody of knife in public place (2 counts)

– Possess unregistered firearm in public place

– Possess ammunition w/o holding licence/permit/authority

– Drive motor vehicle during disqualification period

– Use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle on road

– Use uninsured motor vehicle on road

He was refused bail to appear in Albury Local Court today (Friday 6 September 2024).
