A man has been charged over allegedly driving dangerous and assaulting a police officer.
Just before 12pm yesterday (Wednesday 12 July 2023), police received complaints regarding the manner in which a Ford Falcon was being driven from Coolamon to Wagga Wagga.
Officers attached to Wagga Wagga Traffic and Highway Patrol sighted the Ford travelling on the Olympic Highway towards Wagga Wagga and attempted to stop the vehicle.
The Ford Falcon failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated travelling through the suburbs of Ashmont, Glenfield Park, Mount Austin, and Tolland before the vehicle stopped in Parkhurst Street, Tolland and the driver fled on foot.
The driver, an 18-year-old man from Yerong Creek, was arrested following a short foot pursuit and taken to Wagga Wagga Police Station where he was charged with following offences:
- Police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously
- Drive recklessly / furiously or speed / manner dangerous
- Learner not accompanied by driver / police officer / tester
- Use class A vehicle with unauthorised number plate affixed
- Use unregistered registrable Class A motor vehicle on road
- Use uninsured motor vehicle on road
- Custody of knife in public place
- Assault police officer in execution of duty
He was refused bail to appear at Wagga Wagga Local Court today (Thursday 13 July 2023).
