Man charged following spate of burglaries on Mornington Peninsula

Mornington Peninsula Crime Investigation Unit detectives charged an 18-year-old man following a spate of alleged burglaries across the southern suburbs between 15 May and 20 August.

It is alleged unknown offenders smashed the glass front doors of more than 20 cafes and restaurants across suburbs including Capel Sound, Dromana, McCrae, Mount Martha, Portsea, Red Hill, Rosebud, Rye and Tootgarook.

The alleged damage bill is in excess of $100,000.

A Dromana man has been charged with 20 counts of burglary, 20 counts of theft, and 12 counts of criminal damage.

He was bailed to appear at Frankston Magistrates’ Court on 11 October.

The investigation continues and detectives are keen to speak to a second man in relation to the incidents.

He has been described as Caucasian in appearance, between 185-190cm tall, of a slim build, and believed to be aged between 18-25.

At the time, he was wearing a grey hooded jumper and black puffer vest and was carrying a blue or black balaclava and black backpack.
