A man will face court charged following an investigation into allegedly deliberately lit fires at a business in Tamworth earlier this year.
About 1.30am on Monday 27 May 2024, emergency services were called to a business on Marius Street, Tamworth, following reports of multiple fires.
Fire and Rescue NSW extinguished several car fires; with four damaged by fire and petrol.
Officers attached to Oxley Police District attended and commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fires.
In June 2024, officers attached to Oxley Police District established Strike Force Pell to investigate multiple property-related offences in the region.
Following inquiries, about 10.15am yesterday (Tuesday 30 July 2024), officers attended a home on Loomberah Road, Tamworth, and arrested a 44-year-old man.
He was taken to Tamworth Police Station and charged with;
- Enter building/land with intent commit indictable offence
- Destroy or damage property
- Damage property by fire/exp over $15000 (2 counts)
- Damage property by fire/exp over $ 5000 and under $15000
- Dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception, and
- Give false name.
He was refused bail and appeared at Tamworth Local Court today (Wednesday 31 July 2024), where he was formally refused bail to reappear at the same court on Monday 5 August 2024.
