Man charged over allegedly receiving stolen property – Newcastle

A man had been charged following an investigation into property allegedly stolen during a break and enter at Newcastle.

About 5am on Saturday 12 October 2024, police were called to Rowan Crescent, Merewether, following reports of a break and enter.

Several items were allegedly stolen from the property including handbags, bank cards, cash, and a 2024 NRLW Premiership Ring.

Officers attached to Newcastle City Police District were notified and commenced inquiries into the incident.

Police executed a search warrant at a Hamilton South address on Wednesday 16 October 2024.

Police allegedly located and seized several items believed to have been stolen during the break and enter; however, the Premiership ring remained outstanding.

A 24-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Newcastle Police Station where he was charged with aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence, break and enter dwelling-house etc with intent, enter building/land with intent to commit indictable offence, and dishonestly obtain financial advantage etc by deception.

He was refused bail to appear before Newcastle Local Court on Wednesday 16 October 2024, where he was formally refused bail to appear before the same court on Wednesday 11 December 2024.

On Friday 8 November 2024, police received information about the ring from a business in Newcastle.

Officers attended and recovered the ring before continuing inquiries into the incident.

About 10am yesterday (Thursday 14 November 2024), police arrested a 37-year-old man on Hunter Street, Newcastle.

He was taken to Newcastle Police Station where he was charged with receive stolen property.

He appeared before Newcastle Local Court yesterday (Thursday 14 November 2024), where he was granted strict conditional bail to appear before the same court on Thursday 9 January 2025.
