Man charged, police search for driver after officer dragged by car in Lavington

A man has been charged and police are searching for a driver after an officer was allegedly dragged by a vehicle near Albury yesterday.

About 4pm (Thursday 17 December 2020), investigators from Albury Police District Proactive Crime Team stopped a white Hyundai i30 on Union Road, Lavington, and spoke to the occupants.

As officers attempted to arrest the front-seat passenger, a 25-year-old man, on an outstanding warrant, the female driver allegedly began driving away.

A male constable was allegedly dragged for approximately 30 metres, before he managed to pull the handbrake up and stop the car.

The wanted man exited the vehicle and was arrested following a short foot pursuit.

The Thurgoona man was taken to Albury Police Station and charged with resist officer in execution of duty, and an outstanding warrant for firearm offences.

He was refused bail to appear at Albury Local Court today (Friday 18 December 2020).

The driver fled in the Hyundai and inquiries are continuing to locate her.

The officer sustained bruising to his arm and stomach and a cut to his left thumb, and did not require medical treatment.
