A man has been charged with domestic violence-related offences on the state’s South Coast today.
On Tuesday 2 July 2024, officers from the Southern Region Domestic Violence High Risk Offender Team (DVHROT) commenced investigations after receiving reports of ongoing domestic violence incidents at a number of locations in Sussex Inlet.
Police will allege in court a 29-year-old man physically assaulted a 24-year-old woman known to him on a number of occasions between February 2024 and June 2024.
The alleged assaults included choking the woman on one occasion, damaging her property, and killing her pet scorpions on another occasion.
Following extensive inquiries, about 9am today (Friday 9 August 2024), officers from the Southern Region DVHROT attempted to arrest the man at a caravan park on River Road, Sussex Inlet, when he allegedly ran from police and jumped into a nearby river.
He was arrested a short time later and taken to Nowra Police Station where he was charged with:
– Assault actual bodily harm (DV),
– Stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (DV),
– Intentionally choke etc person without consent (DV),
– Break and enter and steal,
– Destroy and damage property,
– Torture, beat etc and cause death of animal-T2, and
– Hinder or resist police officer in the execution of duty.
The man was refused bail and appeared at Nowra Local Court today (Friday 9 August 2024) where he was granted conditional bail, to reappear at Wollongong Local Court on 22 August 2024.
