Man charged with multiple domestic violence and animal cruelty offences – Bankstown PAC

A man will face court today after being charged with alleged serious domestic and animal cruelty offences in Bankstown.

On Thursday 6 July 2023, officers from Bankstown Police Area Command commenced an investigation in relation to multiple alleged domestic violence offences.

Enquiries revealed that a 20-year-old woman was allegedly assaulted and threatened with physical violence on numerous occasions by a man known to her, including being punched, slapped and choked.

Police were also told that the man filmed the woman during an intimate act without consent and threatened to release the vision.

Following enquiries, detectives from Bankstown Police Area Command, assisted by South West Metro Operations Support Group, executed a search warrant at a residence on Mountview Avenue, Chester Hill.

A 21-year-old man was arrested at the scene and taken to Bankstown Police Station.

A search of the property located a number of dead pet rabbits and a rabbit carcass in the unit’s freezer, which police will allege were killed by the man after he became frustrated with the animals.

Police located two other pet rabbits alive in a cage and they were handed to the RSPCA.

The man was charged with 33 offences:

  • 2 x Stalk/intimidate intend fear physical etc harm (domestic)-T2
  • 4 x Common assault (DV)-T2
  • 8 x Assault occasioning actual bodily harm (DV)-T2
  • Drive motor vehicle during disqualification period – 2nd+off
  • 3 x Torture, beat etc and cause death of animal-T2
  • Intentionally choke etc person without consent (DV)-T1
  • Destroy or damage property
  • 3 x Use carriage service to threaten to kill
  • 4 x Intentionally record intimate image w/o consent etc (DV) -T2
  • 3 x Use carriage service to menace/harass/offend
  • Possess prohibited drug
  • Threaten to distribute intimate image w/o consent (DV) -T2
  • Fail to comply digital evidence access order direction

The man was refused bail and is due to appear at Parramatta Local Court today (Saturday 8 July 2023).
