Man charged with murder after investigation into alleged shooting death of Marvin Oraiha – Strike Force Hackenburg

Criminal Groups Squad detectives have charged a man with murder, and executed seven subsequent search warrants, as an investigation into the alleged fatal shooting of Marvin Oraiha continues under Strike Force Hackenburg.

About 4pm on Monday 22 May 2023, emergency services were called to Hertfordshire Street in Elizabeth Hills, following reports of a shooting.

On arrival, officers attached to Liverpool City Police Area Command located a 24-year-old man suffering several gunshot wounds.

Despite the efforts of police and NSW Ambulance paramedics, the man died at the scene. He has since been identified as Marvin Oraiha.

A short time later, emergency services were called to Cave Close in Green Valley, and Lewis Street in Bonnyrigg Heights, following reports of two car fires.

Crime scenes were established and forensically examined at all three locations, which are being treated as linked.

Liverpool detectives – with assistance from the Homicide Squad – commenced inquiries, before State Crime Command’s Criminal Groups Squad took carriage of the investigation under Strike Force Hackenburg.

In June 2023, strike force detectives released CCTV of two men they believe could assist with their investigation, as well as CCTV of three vehicles as part of an appeal for public information.

Following further extensive inquiries, about 6am yesterday (Wednesday 12 July 2023), strike force detectives – with assistance from Raptor Squad officers – executed a search warrant at an address in Roselands, where they arrested a 22-year-old man.

Six other subsequent search warrants were then executed at addresses in in Edensor Park, Green Valley, Yagoona, Liverpool, Merrylands and Guildford.

During the searches, police located ammunition, an extendable baton, gel-blasters, a taser, cloned registration plates, substances believed to be prohibited drugs, clothing, over $3000 in cash, and mobile phones relevant to their investigation.

All the items were seized to undergo further forensic examination.

The 22-year-old was taken to Campsie Police Station where he was charged with murder, two counts of take and drive conveyance w/o consent of owner, possess unauthorised pistol, and participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.

He was refused bail to appear before Bankstown Local Court today (Thursday 13 July 2023).

Investigations under Strike Force Hackenburg continue.
