A man has been charged with weapons, drugs, and traffic offences following a pursuit in the Illawarra region yesterday.
About 8.10pm (Friday 6 September 2024), officers attached to Southern Region Operational Support Group were conducting patrols in the Koonawarra area when they saw two unregistered motorbikes riding on Wyndarra Way.
Police attempted to stop the motorbikes; however, a pursuit was initiated after the riders allegedly failed to stop.
When at the intersection of Lakelands Drive, one of the bikes lost control and crashed into a guard rail, causing the rider to fall.
Officers arrested the 25-year-old man and during a subsequent search, located and seized a 12-gauge shotgun, methylamphetamine, a large sum of cash, and further illicit drugs.
After attending Shellharbour Hospital, the man was taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station where he was charged with 12 offences; including police pursuit; drive whilst disqualified; possess shortened firearm; and possess loaded firearm public place.
The Albion Park Rail man was bail refused to appear in Wollongong Bail Court today (Saturday 7 September 2024).
