A man has been arrested by police after he drove off from a drug and alcohol breath testing site in Wheelers Hill last night.
The man pulled into the Ferntree Gully Road site and furnished a preliminary breath test before he took off, losing traction, about 8.30pm.
As the man drove off in his Toyota HiAce van, with suspected V8 engine modification, officers on the line had to move out of the way to avoid the vehicle.
The 76-year-old man, who had furnished a positive preliminary breath test, pulled over about 100 metres up the road where he was arrested by police.
A subsequent evidentiary breath test conducted at a local police station returned a reading of 0.067.
The Wheelers Hill man has been interviewed by Nunawading Highway Patrol in relation to conduct endangering serious injury, careless driving, drink driving and other traffic related offences.
He has been released and is expected to be charged on summons.
No one was injured during the incident.
