NSW Police detectives have travelled to the USA to extradite a man with an outstanding warrant.
The 35-year-old man was wanted by virtue of an arrest warrant relating to sexual offences allegedly committed while holidaying in Sydney in June 2017.
It’s alleged the man sexually and indecently assaulted a 21-year-old woman at a Carlton unit on Wednesday 14 June 2017.
The man left Australia in the hours following the incident.
NSW Police subsequently applied for a NSW warrant and an extradition application was submitted to the Attorney General’s Department.
About 9.20am on Thursday 17 January 2019, the man was arrested by NYPD – United States Marshall Service Task Force officers in New York, by virtue of a Federal Warrant.
On Thursday (2 May 2019), detectives from St George Police Area Command met local authorities in Los Angeles, where they had escorted the man from New York.
They took custody of the man and he was accompanied by detectives on a flight to Sydney, before being taken to Kogarah Police Station yesterday morning (Saturday 4 May 2019).
The man was charged with the arrest warrant for the offences of sexual intercourse without consent (x2) and assault with act of indecency (x5).
He was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Bail Court today (Sunday 5 May 2019).
