A man will appear in court today after being extradited and charged as part of cold-case fraud investigations by Sydney detectives.
In February 2019, detectives attached to the Sydney City Fraud Unit commenced Strike Force Santangello, conducting investigations into incidents of alleged fraud dating back to 1999.
As part of strike force detectives’ inquiries, a 44-year-old man was arrested by Victorian police in Clayton on Thursday 2 May 2019, before being extradited to NSW.
He was taken to Mascot Police Station where he was charged by virtue of three warrants, issued for fraud-related offences, and possessing stolen items.
Police will allege in court that during July of 1999, mail was redirected from a Liverpool home address to a Kings Cross address.
Later that month, a fraudulent loan application – under the name of the Liverpool home’s owner – was sent to a bank and approved for the amount of $20,000.
It will also be alleged that in April of 2000, the 44-year-old man was found to be in possession of car keys believed to have been stolen.
He has been refused bail to appear at Parramatta Bail Court today (Saturday 4 May 2019).
Anyone with information about incidents of fraud – regardless of when they occurred – is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or . Information is treated in strict confidence.
