Man extradited from Victoria over historic child abuse, NSW

A man will appear in court today after being extradited from Victoria over the alleged sexual abuse of a boy and girl in Sydney’s south more than a decade ago.

In July 2014, detectives from the Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad commenced an investigation following reports a boy and girl were sexually assaulted between 2005 and 2009 by a man known to them.

Following extensive investigations, which included inquiries to locate the man, detectives were granted an arrest warrant for a 56-year-old man in January 2015.

As a result of inquiries, it was identified the man was living interstate and assistance was requested from Victoria Police.

Following further inquiries, the now 61-year-old man was arrested, and NSW detectives applied for and were granted his extradition to NSW yesterday (Thursday 12 December 2019).

The man was escorted by detectives to Albury Police Station, were he was charged with five counts of aggravated sexual assault – victim under the age of 16, two counts of sexual intercourse with person under the age of 10, and commit act of indecency with victim under 10.

Police will allege in court that the man sexually assaulted a girl – aged between six and nine – at a home in Sydney’s south between 2005 and 2009.

It will be further alleged that the man sexually assaulted a boy – aged between eight and 12 – during the same time period.

He was refused bail to appear at Albury Local Court today (Friday 13 December 2019).

The Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate matters against children and adults, including sexual assault, serious physical abuse, and extreme cases of neglect.
