Man in court after shot fired during 2014 attempted armed robbery at Petersham, NSW

A man will appear in court today charged after allegedly firing a shot at a security guard during an attempted armed robbery at a licensed venue in Sydney’s Inner West nearly six years ago.

About 8.20pm on Saturday 27 December 2014, a man – armed with a shortened rifle – entered a venue on New Canterbury Road, Petersham, and threatened a security guard and patrons.

Police will allege the man fired a shot through a glass door in the direction of the guard, before there was a physical altercation between the pair.

The guard grabbed the rifle and the man fled empty handed.

Officers from Inner West Police Area Command attended and commenced an investigation.

Following extensive inquiries, detectives arrested a 37-year-old man on Liverpool Road, Ashfield, about 10am yesterday (Wednesday 9 September 2020).

He was taken to Newtown Police Station and charged with assault with intent rob while armed with dangerous weapon and discharge firearm intent cause grievous bodily harm.

The Ashfield man was refused bail to appear at Newtown Local Court today (Thursday 10 September 2020).
