Man in court over assault of toddler and twin babies, NSW

A man will appear in court today charged over the alleged assault of a toddler and twin babies in the Riverina region.

In May 2013, detectives from the State Crime Command’s Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad were notified after a 15-month-old boy presented to hospital with facial bruising and bleeding.

An investigation commenced at the time, however, no one was charged.

On Tuesday 12 March 2019, a two-month-old boy was transported to hospital after becoming unresponsive.

Officers were told by the doctors the baby had suffered leg fractures, significant head trauma and facial bruising.

Detectives commenced inquiries to investigate how the baby came to be injured.

During the investigation, detectives were notified that another two-month-old boy presented at hospital after losing consciousness in March this year.

Following extensive investigations, detectives arrested a 24-year-old man, who is known to the infants, at a business in the Riverina area just after 1pm yesterday (Thursday 14 November 2019).

He was taken to Griffith Police Station and charged with two counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm (DV) and reckless grievous bodily harm (DV).

Police will allege in court that the man assaulted twin two-month-old twin boys on separate occasions in March 2019.

It will be further alleged the man assaulted the 15-month-old boy in May 2013.

The man was refused bail to appear at Griffith Local Court today (Friday 15 November 2019).

The infants are all in the care of family.
