Man in court over manufacture of firearms at Griffith, NSW

A man will face court today charged following an investigation into the importation and manufacture of firearms in the state’s Riverina area.

About 1pm yesterday (Tuesday 10 December 2019), officers from Murrumbidgee Police District served a Firearms Prohibition Order (FPO) and a Weapons Prohibition Order (WPO) on a 38-year-old man at a home in Griffith.

During a search of the property, police located two gel blasters, seven silencers, prohibited drugs, laptops, mobile phones, electronic hard drives, and documentation. These items were seized to undergo forensic examination.

The 38-year-old man was arrested and taken to Griffith Police Station, where he was charged two counts of possess unauthorised prohibited firearm, seven counts of possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit, not keep firearm safely-pistol, and possess prohibited drug.

Police will allege in court that the man was manufacturing firearms at the property and was in the process of converting the gel blasters into prohibited firearms.

The man was refused bail to appear at Griffith Local Court today (Wednesday 11 December 2019).

Investigations are continuing.
