Man rescued after fall from cliff on Bruny Island

Police and emergency services rescued an injured climber from East Cloudy Head, South Bruny Island overnight.
Search and rescue officers extracted the man from the cliff using ropes after he fell around 15 metres and sustained serious injuries.
The Ambulance Rescue Helicopter and the Police Westpac Rescue Helicopter were deployed but were unable to winch the man to safety due to prevailing weather conditions.
A medical team was winched in to stabilise the patient, along with Tasmania Police search and rescue members.
Approximately four hours later, the weather abated to allow the Ambulance Rescue Helicopter to winch the patient to safety.
The Police Westpac Rescue Helicopter extracted the remaining rescue team members.
The injured man, aged in his 30’s, was flown to a Melbourne hospital in a serious condition for treatment.
