Man rescued from Southwest ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Park

A 62-year-old man has been rescued after activating his emergency beacon while bushwalking in the Southwest ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Park this afternoon.

The man, who was walking alone, activated the Personal Locator Beacon about 2.35pm when weather conditions worsened, and he was unable to find his way back to the track.

The Westpac Rescue helicopter responded and safely collected the man near Pine Lake.

Sergeant Bernard Peters said the man was found cold but otherwise well.

“Tasmania Police has experienced an increased demand for search and rescue resources in recent weeks,” he said.

“Police would like to take this opportunity to remind bushwalkers to be adequately prepared for bushwalking, particularly during these colder months as conditions can change rapidly.”

“The carriage of safety equipment including an emergency beacon and a satellite phone is strongly encouraged.”

“We would also encourage people to walk with others if possible.”
