A man remains under police guard in hospital following a police operation in Albury last night.
About 7pm (Saturday 3 August 2019), officers from Murray River Police District attended Jason Circuit in Lavington, to speak to a man as a part of inquiries into drug supply matters.
Upon arrival police found a 40-year-old man, in a shed on the property, threatening police. He was accompanied by a 48-year-old woman.
A perimeter was established and specialist operatives from the Tactical Operations Regional Support and negotiators attended.
The man remained inside the shed for a number of hours, while specialist police attempted to speak with him.
About 11.40pm, the woman left the shed without incident. She was escorted to a waiting ambulance and taken to hospital as a precaution.
Due to concerns for his welfare, officers entered the shed and found the man was armed with a machete.
The 40-year-old man was arrested and conveyed by ambulance with a police escort to Albury Wodonga Base Hospital. He did not sustain any injuries but was treated for suspected drug use.
After searching the premise, police located a replica M4 Carbine .233 semi automatic rifle and assorted ammunition.
The man will be interviewed by police regarding a number of offences.
