An Adelaide man preparing to board a flight has been arrested by AFP officers at Adelaide Airport after airline staff allegedly spotted a passenger with what appeared to be an electronic tracking ankle bracelet intending to travel to Perth.
AFP officers were called to the domestic check-in area of the airport on Thursday afternoon (15 September, 2022) by airline staff.
It will be alleged airline staff identified the passenger appeared to be wearing an electronic tracking ankle bracelet and entered a public bathroom calling for the AFP to attend.
AFP officers arrived on scene to speak with the passenger, who initially refused police requests to come out of the bathroom. After a short period of negation with AFP the man eventually complied with police instructions.
AFP allege they observed the man wearing a corrections tracking ankle bracelet and located a pair of scissors in a bin.
It is alleged the scissors had been used in an attempt to cut off the bracelet.
The man was arrested and charged with offences relating to attempted breach of bail and attempting to travel under a false name:
• Breach of bail, contrary to section 17(1) of the Bail Act 1985 (SA), as applied by section 4 of the Commonwealth Places (Application of Laws) Act 1970 (Cth).
• Use false identification information at a constitutional airport, contrary to section 376.2(1) of the Criminal Code 1995 (Cth).
AFP are making further enquires in relation to other suspected offences.
The passenger is expected to face court today (Friday 16 September, 2022).
