A man wanted on an outstanding warrant has been arrested in Lewisham today.
The 32-year-old was last seen at Newtown Railway Station on Saturday 9 March 2024.
Detectives attached to State Crime Command’s Sex Crimes Squad – with assistance from Inner West, Burwood, and South Sydney Police Area Commands – commenced inquiries into his whereabouts.
Following a public appeal for assistance to locate the man, about midday today (Friday 15 March 2024), a member of the public spotted and recognised the man on Upward Street in Leichhardt.
The member of the public gave chase to the man across Parramatta Road and into Carrington Street, where he was detained in a citizen’s arrest.
Officers attached to Inner West Police Area Command attended and formally arrested the man.
He was taken to Newtown Police Station where he is expected to be charged by virtue of two outstanding warrants which relate to an indecent act towards children, destroying property, contravening a prohibition order, and failing to comply with reporting obligations.
Police would like to thank the media and public for their assistance.
