Mandurah Crab Fest nets three-year funding deal

  • State Government, through Tourism WA, funds popular festival until 2021
  • Event attracts about 100,000 attendees, boosting the local economy
  • Showcases Mandurah’s coastal lifestyle, culture and community
  • The State Government, through Tourism Western Australia, has signed a three-year deal to fund the popular Mandurah Crab Fest until 2021.

The festival, set on the foreshore of the Peel-Harvey Estuary, showcases Mandurah’s coastal lifestyle, culture and community to about 100,000 attendees, which is more people than the city’s current population of about 82,000.

Named after the blue manna crab, which is native to Mandurah waters, the event features cooking demonstrations with chefs and celebrities, live music, market stalls, entertainment, free workshops, art displays and fireworks.

The State Government is proud to support Mandurah Crab Fest through Tourism WA’s Regional Events Program.

As noted by Tourism Minister Paul Papalia:

“Over the past 20 years, Mandurah Crab Fest has grown into one of Western Australia’s largest free festivals, and the State Government’s sponsorship until 2021 will help the event deliver greater tourism outcomes.

“The festival not only showcases the Peel region, but also encourages visitors to extend their stay and enjoy other tourism experiences on offer in the area.

“Regional events are vital for tourism, which is a key pillar of the State Government’s plan to diversify the economy, create jobs and develop business opportunities.”

As noted by Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:

“Crab Fest drives economic growth, job creation, local capability and social amenity for the Peel region and is significant for Mandurah’s sense of community and heritage.

“Regional events play an important role in strengthening the local economy by promoting centres like Mandurah as agri-tourist destinations and giving a real boost for local businesses.”
