Mandurah ready to welcome Thomas Dambo’s new Giant

  • New Giants of Mandurah sculpture to be built next month
  • New sculpture replaces the damaged Giant Vivi Cirkelstone
  • Created by Danish artist Thomas Dambo, and to be built in collaboration with local community

Mandurah is preparing for a new arrival to join the popular Giants of Mandurah outdoor sculpture trail created by world-renowned Danish recycle artist, Thomas Dambo.

The addition to Thomas Dambo’s Australian-first exhibition is scheduled to arrive next month and will reside at Coodanup Foreshore, replacing the previous sculpture of Giant Vivi Cirkelstone, which was damaged in December last year.

The new Giant will be built and installed with the help of the local community, with volunteers to be invited to assist with construction between 8-15 May 2023.

After the new Giant has been installed, there will be a free family event to celebrate all the Giants, held at Coodanup Foreshore on a date to be announced.

The Giants of Mandurah project is supported by the McGowan Government through Tourism WA’s Regional Events Program, as well as the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries, Lotterywest, the City of Subiaco, and the Alcoa Foundation.

The exhibition was produced by FORM: Building a State of Creativity Inc. and delivered in collaboration with the City of Mandurah, and will remain on display in the Peel region until at least 12 November 2023.

Since the opening of the Giants of Mandurah, the Mandurah Visitor Centre has welcomed more than 86,000 visitors through its doors, representing a 400 per cent increase in visitation compared to the previous year.

Free resources are available to help visitors plan their adventure and discover the exhibition, including the official Travellers’ Companion which can be downloaded at

As stated by Tourism Minister Roger Cook:

“The Giants of Mandurah has proven to be one of Western Australia’s must popular events over the past six months, with more than 86,000 visitors descending on the Peel region to see the Giants since its launch in November.

“It has been wonderful to see the community come together to support the establishment of this one-of-a-kind outdoor exhibition, which will continue to elevate the fantastic Peel region as a tourism and leisure destination.

“I love the spirit of the community to come together with Thomas Dambo’s team to build the new Giant.

“I urge all Western Australians to plan an overnight stay in Mandurah to take some time to explore the magic of the Giants and the natural beauty of the Peel region.”

As stated by Culture and the Arts Minister David Templeman:

“The WA Government and all Western Australians are so pleased that Thomas Dambo has been able to take the time out of his very busy schedule to create a new Giant for Mandurah.

“The fact that the community will once again come together to help construct and install Thomas Dambo’s latest creation demonstrates how well-loved the Giants of Mandurah are.

“This latest addition to the Giants of Mandurah outdoor exhibition will bring even more joy to Mandurah residents and visitors alike, and we look forward to welcoming the new Giant to our State.”
