Manslaughter and grievous bodily harm charges in Waterford West, QLD

A man has been charged with manslaughter, grievous bodily harm and fail to remain at scene following the death of a teenage boy in Waterford West last night, Saturday March 4.

Investigators allege around 8pm a black Toyota Hilux utility was being driven dangerously along Bourke Street when it struck a white dirt bike being ridden by two local teenage boys.

The 17-year-old rider died from his injuries at the scene and a 19-year-old boy who was the pillion passenger sustained serious injuries and was transported to hospital where he remains.

Investigators will further allege the driver fled the scene in the vehicle without rendering assistance to the pair.

Polair tracked the utility allegedly being driven to Cairns Street, Loganholme, where the driver, a 21-year-old Thornlands man, was taken into custody without incident.

Logan Criminal Investigation Branch detectives overnight charged him with one count each of manslaughter, grievous bodily harm and fail to remain at scene.

He was denied police bail and will appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Monday March 6.

Witnesses, especially those with dashcam or CCTV from the area, including Loganholme in the vicinity of Cairns Street are urged to come forward.
