The Upper Hunter Shire Council’s Scone CBD revitalisation project will soon be a reality, thanks to $8 million dollars of Federal funding from the Coalition Government.
Funded under the Community Development Grants program, the Council project will revitalise the Scone CBD with pedestrian-focused public spaces to retain and attract economic opportunities in the CBD following the recent completion of the bypass road.
Deputy Prime Minister and Member for New England, Barnaby Joyce, said this funding is a massive win for the Scone community and the wider Upper Hunter.
“I’ve been fighting to get this funding over the line for a long time, and I’m delighted to be able to deliver this for the people of Scone and the Upper Hunter,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.
“A project like this has the ability to transform towns, rejuvenate businesses and boom the local economy.
“I can’t wait to visit and see the finished product and am particularly looking forward to the Equine Walk of Fame,” Mr Joyce said.
Upper Hunter Shire Council Mayor Maurice Collison said the funding was a welcome addition and ensured all of Kelly St would be revitalized.
“This funding is fantastic,” he said.
“It’s been a long time coming and to finally be able to get the funding to finish this project is amazing.
“It’s the icing on the cake for us and we are very thankful to the Coalition Government and Mr Joyce for delivering this funding.”
Mr Joyce and Upper Hunter Shire Council would also like to thank Upper Hunter MP Dave Layzell and the New South Wales Government, for committing $10,954,377 to the project.
