Masters Games early bird registrations close 28 June

If you’ve been thinking of signing up for the Masters Games, now is the time to take the plunge – before early bird registrations close on 28 June.

Early bird registrations offer a significant discount and can be completed online at . Or you can attend the Locals Registration Night on Friday, 28 June at the Lismore Workers Club, where you can register and pay your fees from 5-7pm. The dining room will be open and people are encouraged to bring their family or their sporting team.

The 11th Lismore Workers Masters Games will be held from 27-29 September in Lismore with 20 sports to choose from. All the regular sports return from previous years with swimming making a comeback this year as well as three new sports – basketball, rugby 7s and mountain biking.

For those who like their games indoors and close to the bar, there is also a mini-Olympics at the Workers Club that involves darts, snooker, euchre and indoor bowls.

“This is your last chance to take advantage of the early bird discount and join this fantastic social and sporting event. We expect to have around 1500 competitors taking part. These are all players on the wrong side of 30 and they’re generally more interested in having a ball than winning the ball,” Council’s Tourism and Events Manager Mitch Lowe said.

“While the Masters Games is all about sport, the emphasis is really on fun, friendship and having a go. We have live music and social events throughout the three days of competition and there is a great sense of fellowship among all the competitors. Beginners and new players are always very welcome. You don’t have to be a master to join the Masters.”

Mitch said the Masters Games also provides an important economic boost for the city, with around $1 million injected into the Lismore economy.

“In the last 20 years the Lismore Workers Masters Games has gone from strength to strength and we have competitors flying in from all over the world in 2019,” Mitch said.

“The weekend provides a huge boost for our accommodation providers as well as for our retail sector and our pubs, clubs and eateries. It’s a signature event for Lismore and one we are very proud of. And it’s all made possible thanks to our enormous team of volunteers who give their time and talent to make the Games a reality.”

In 2019 competitors will enjoy major upgrades to several facilities including Oakes Oval, Crozier Field, the Albert Park Baseball and Softball Complex and the regional hockey facility at Hepburn Park.
