Mater Private Hospital Brisbane is celebrating its accreditation as a Centre of Excellence in Breast Treatment, Neurosurgery and Minimally Invasive Surgery.
The accreditation was awarded following a rigorous assessment of the hospital’s clinical systems, processes and outcomes by the internationally-recognised SRC agency.
Mater Private Hospital Brisbane General Manager Jennifer Pitt said the hospital and its staff had “shone” throughout the assessment.
“Our hospital has worked hard over many years to build our reputation as a leader in breast cancer treatment, neurosurgery and minimally invasive surgery,” Ms Pitt said.
“Our aim has always been to provide exceptional, best practice care for our patients.
“We know this what we deliver, but to receive a ‘best-in-class’ accreditation is wonderful news for Mater and – most importantly – for our patients.”
Mater Private Hospital Brisbane is one of Queensland’s leading centres for breast cancer treatment. It accepts around 500 new patients year and performs more than 100 breast reconstructions annually.
The hospital also has a growing reputation for neurosurgical care and has been an early adopter of minimally invasive surgery and technology. Last year, 1935 neurosurgery procedures were performed at the hospital, including 583 public cases.
Earlier this year neurosurgeon Dr Martin Wood performed the first procedure at Mater using the advanced Excelsius GPS robotic system.
The system’s computerised tracking technology enables surgeons to operate with pinpoint precision and will make spinal operations safer for hundreds of neuro patients each year.
“The assessors’ absolute priority was patient safety – and they acknowledged the exceptional safety standards and culture they saw at Mater Private,” Ms Pitt said.
“They were also impressed by our work in spinal surgery and with the comprehensive scope of our breast care service.
“Most of all, I think this outcome is down to the experience and expertise of our staff and doctors. They really shone throughout this process – as they always do.”
Health care facilities and surgeons seeking an SRC accreditation undergo an extensive assessment and inspection process to ensure the applicant meets SRC’s proven standards and requirements. These requirements include surgical volumes, facility equipment, clinical pathways and standardized operating procedures, an emphasis on patient education and continuous quality assessment.
“We’re proud to recognize Mater Private Hospital Brisbane for its commitment to advancing and providing quality care for all patients,” said Gary M. Pratt, CEO of SRC.
“This accreditation signals that this hospital is among the best in this specialty and is dedicated to delivering the highest level of care possible.”
