Mawson Lakes School has a new footbridge thanks to the contributions and cooperation between the City of Salisbury and the State Government, Minister for Education, Training and Skills, The Honourable Blair Boyer MP.
In the past, occasional flooding had rendered the old footbridge unusable and identified a need for a replacement to ensure student safety. The City of Salisbury and the Department for Education collaboratively funded the project, with Council funding $530,000 and The Department for Education contributing $410,000 to cover the $940,000 in costs for the new bridge. The bridge connects the Mawson Lakes School campus over two parcels of land across Dry Creek Reserve and was critical for school staff and students to access buildings on either side.
Construction for a new footbridge started last year and was designed to withstand flooding events and improve accessibility for the school community. Spanning 62.5m with bridge trusses made from structural steel, concrete for the piers and abutments, fibre reinforced polymer decking, steel handrails and lighting, users of the bridge can be assured of their safety when water levels rise.
The opening of the new Mawson Lakes School footbridge took place on Friday 30 June 2023.
