Mayor: Time to move forward on vital projects

Newly elected Clarence Valley Mayor Peter Johnstone is urging the community to get behind Council’s decision to proceed with two major facility redevelopments.

The new and projects were given the green light in a vote by councillors at Tuesday’s meeting of Clarence Valley Council.

Mayor Johnstone said as a result, the new Regional Aquatic Centre in Grafton was anticipated to be completed by next summer, and Council would be able to retain the $11 million in grant funding allocated to the Yamba Community Precinct.

“There has been a difference of opinion over the best way to complete these projects, but Council has now decided on the best approach to take and it is now time to move forward,” he said.

The tender for the $29.1 million Regional Aquatic Centre has been awarded to Hines Construction, with work to commence onsite as soon as possible on Stage 1 and 2 including:

  • Demolition of existing 50m and dive pools, and facilities
  • Construction of:

  • Indoor facility
  • Splash pad
  • Electrical substation
  • Outdoor 50m pool and grandstand
  • Refurbishment of existing amenities
