Logan City Council Mayor Darren Power has welcomed new State Government funding aimed at helping Queensland’s recovery from Covid-19.
The State Government has announced more than $400 million in road upgrades, including $77.5m in Logan.
The projects include;
– $37.5 million for the jointly-funded Mount Lindesay Highway upgrade from Stoney Camp Road to Chambers Flat Road
– $30 million for the Beaudesert Road and Illaweena Street intersection upgrade
– $10 million for the Beaudesert-Beenleigh Road upgrade
Logan Mayor Darren Power said Council had long advocated for increased roads funding for the city.
“This will help unclog the bottlenecks that have strangled Logan’s economy,” Mayor Power said.
“The timing couldn’t be better as the city and the state prepares for the post-Covid-19 future where creating jobs and fostering economic growth is a priority.
“A solid roads network attracts investment in the city, especially large-scale logistics companies that are looking at Logan as a place to headquarter their operations.”
City Infrastructure Chairperson Councillor Teresa Lane said the construction phase would also provide a jobs boost.
“The State Government says up to 127 jobs will be created by these works in Logan,” Cr Lane said.
“That’s just what the city needs right now – jobs and the sort of growth that leaves a positive and lasting legacy.
“The upgrade of the Beaudesert Road and Illaweena Street intersection is also a big win for safety in an area that is heavily used for school traffic.”
Since 2017 Council’s Fair Share 4 Logan campaign has advocated for a better deal from the State and Federal Government’s to address the city’s key infrastructure needs.
