The McGowan Government has allocated $2.5 million to build a new sports pavilion at Ellenbrook Christian College.
The new sports and recreation pavilion at Ellenbrook Christian College will allow students to use the oval and have access to change rooms and a dedicated pavilion.
The sporting pavilion will be in high demand once the METRONET Morley-Ellenbrook rail line is built and will create an additional facility for the community to enjoy.
The alignment of the transit corridor, which has been reserved as part of the area’s development plan since the early 1990s, sits between Ellenbrook Christian College’s school buildings and the school oval.
To help maintain safe access between the school and oval, the train line will be built on a raised embankment and a pedestrian underpass installed.
MELconnx Consortium (Laing O’Rourke Australia Construction) was recently awarded the $700 million main construction contract to build the Morley-Ellenbrook Line, with early works on the project already underway at the New Bayswater Station and Tonkin Gap sites.
As stated by Transport Minister Rita Saffioti:
“We’ve allocated $2.5 million to build a new sports pavilion at Ellenbrook Christian College which will allow students to use the oval and have access to facilities.
“A number of years ago, the college built their oval over the transit corridor, meaning the rail line will separate the oval from the school.
“The new dedicated sports pavilion will now be built on the oval side of the corridor, allowing the students to use the oval with their own pavilion, while also creating a facility for community sports.
“The project team has worked closely with Ellenbrook Christian College to ensure staff and students maintain access to the oval both during construction and once the train line is operational.
“I’d like to thank the college for their patience and I look forward to continuing to work with them in the future.”
As stated by Swan Hills MLA Jessica Shaw:
“Ellenbrook is a popular suburb with a booming population and will continue to grow over coming years.
“It’s important we build and deliver the infrastructure our community needs.
“This new sporting facility, together with our Morley-Ellenbrook rail project, the new leisure centre under construction and the Ellenbrook Youth Centre, mark long overdue and significant investments in Ellenbrook’s future.
“I’m proud to be a part of the McGowan Government that is continuing to deliver for the people of Ellenbrook.”
