ThreeNT creatives have been selected for the 2019 Creative in Residence program witheach artist receiving $30,000 to take up residency at the Araluen CulturalPrecinct, the Northern Territory Library and the Northern Territory ArchivesService from July 2019.
Theartists will work in the venues over three months or more to engage with theDepartment of Tourism, Sport and Cultures unique NT collections.
This year, the artists are:
Alicia Scobie Tennant Creek Truths -Northern Territory Library
Based at the Northern Territory Library in Darwin from Julyto November 2019, musician Alicia Scobie will use her residency at the NTLibrary to write, record and release a five-song EP and a lyric art book underher band name of Leash and the Dusty Boots. The work will be based on theTennant Creek/Barkly Region collection held at the Northern Territory Library.Songwriting workshops will be offered in Darwin and Tennant Creek. Residency dates 1 July 5 November2019
Neridah Stockley HERMANNSBURG and PAINT – Araluen Cultural Precinct
Based at the Araluen Cultural Precinct in Alice Springs fromJuly to October 2019, visual artist Neridah Stockley will use her residency toresearch and develop an artistic response to the Hermannsburg Historic Precinctand the Araluen Collection with a showcase exhibition at the Araluen ArtsCentre in mid-2020. Artist talks and plein air (outdoor) workshops will be heldat sites of significance around Alice Springs. Residency dates 15 July 7 October2019
Katy Moir A Hypothetical Darwin – Northern Territory Archives Services
Katy Moirs residency will explore a Darwin that hasn’t beenrealised yet and develop a series of designs of public spaces andinfrastructure to encourage the community to reimagine space and to think abouthow we can utilise the existing built environment. The broader community will be invitedthroughout the residency to view, engage with and discuss the developeddesigns. Residency dates October 2019-March 2020
The Creative in Residence program, offered through theNorthern Territory Arts Grants Program, enables artists to connect with NTscollections, and to interpret the information in new ways to create newartistic works.
The program started in 2017 and since then, seven NT artistshave taken up the opportunity to work with some of the NTs culturalcollections.
The Creative in Residence program increases publicengagement with the collections and provides opportunity to see artistscreatively activate public spaces.
