Ministers Jason Clare and Brendan O’Connor will meet with the Minister of Education for the People’s Republic of China, Professor Huai Jinpeng, during his first ministerial visit to Australia.
Minister Clare will meet with Minister Huai today and Minister O’Connor will meet with Minister Huai on Tuesday.
The meetings are a welcome opportunity to discuss the importance of the Australia-China relationship in education as well as skills and training.
It is also an important opportunity to build on the long history of education engagement between our two countries, and discuss other matters in accordance with our respective national interests.
The discussions with Minister Huai will include the value of education, skills and training in creating people-to-people links.
The Ministers will also talk about the transformative power of education to the lives of students and the economic opportunities that education can create.
Australian senior officials will also meet with a delegation from China’s Ministry of Education for the 6th Australia-China Education Joint Working Group on Education and Research.
This forum will be an opportunity for officials to engage on key areas for education cooperation including student mobility and qualifications recognition.
