Melton residents will be able to cool down this summer with the heritage Melton Courthouse becoming home to a major ice-cream franchise later this year.
The local heritage landmark will be a new summer family favourite with Augustus Gelatery taking over the venue.
Melton City Council selected Augustus Gelatery to bring the venue back to life after a competitive expressions of interest process.
The Courthouse was recently upgraded thanks to a $260,000 Council investment in structural improvements. These structural upgrades, including electrical works, plumbing, new doors to decking area and mechanical exhaust to the kitchen, have brought the Courthouse up to standard for hospitality retailers and will ensure the Courthouse remains a local attraction for generations to come.
This project was delivered as part of Melton Town Centre Revitalisation Project, an urban renewal program, funded by the Victorian Government.
An additional $200,000 Victorian Government grant as part of the revitalisation project is funding a new alfresco dining space and deck, with works currently underway.
This week, Council awarded the contract for building the new $600,000 Kids Zone next to the Courthouse so soon families will be able to get active, have a play and finish it off with an ice-cream.
