The newly constructed Memorial Square toilet facilities in central Colac will open to the public tomorrow.
The toilet block features Colac Otway’s first Changing Places facility, male and female toilets, all gender toilets, an all gender ambulant bathroom facility, and a family room with a baby change area and accessible toilet with baby change facilities.
“There is one more piece of work to be done to the Changing Places facility, and we anticipate that will be open by Thursday,” Community and Economy General Manger Ian Seuren said. “All other facilities were open by Tuesday afternoon.”
Mr Seuren said offering a Changing Places facility in Colac means we open up our region to a whole sector of the community who may not otherwise have found it convenient or possible to travel to Colac Otway and surrounds.
The existing toilet block will be maintained for a few more days with demolition to start after the long weekend.
“For a few days during the demolition phase the Colac Taxi Service will relocate to the other side of Gellibrand Street for the safety of its patrons,” Mr Seuren said.
“These are fantastic new facilities that will be appreciated by visitors and locals.”
The new toilets were funded by the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, the Victorian Government’s Changing Places Program and Colac Otway Shire.
