Mental health nurse charged with offences against child

Perth Detectives have arrested a man as part of their ongoing investigation into alleged historical sexual offences against a child who was under his care.

It will be alleged between 2016 and 2018, the man indecently and sexually assaulted a girl who was 14-years-old at the time of the first offence. His behaviour is believed to have been of a predatory nature, to prepare a child or young person for sexual activity at a later time.

At the time of the alleged incidents, the man was a qualified mental health nurse, who worked for a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services in regional WA.

The 48-year-old man from Mount Nasura has been charged with:-

• 12 counts of Sexually Penetrated a Child of or over 13 and under 16 years;

• 5 counts of Indecently Deals with a Child over 13 under 16 years;

• 1 count of Indecently Recorded a Child over 13 under 16 years; and

• 1 count of Child under 16: Persistent Sexual Conduct With.

He is due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court today, 18 January 2023.

Perth Detectives executed a search warrant on the man’s home where they located and seized a number of electronic devices which were found to contain Child Exploitation Material (CEM). Some of the content included evidence of children being filmed unbeknown to them in public places, including on public transport, at public beaches and outside schools in the Perth metropolitan area.
