Merbein residents are encouraged to share their thoughts, ideas and dreams for the future of their town by taking part in a series of public visioning sessions this month as part of development of the town’s new Community Plan.
As the name suggests, visioning sessions are a chance for the community to let us know what their vision is for the town in which they live, work and socialise.
These sessions will form the basis of the Merbein Community Plan 2022-2026, which will serve as the guiding document for the town for the coming four years.
Councillor for Community Development and Gender Equality Helen Healy said development of Merbein’s Community Plan was a collaborative effort, involving Council staff working side-by-side with the Merbein Development Association and the broader community.
Visioning sessions will be held on the following dates:
Monday 16 May
Merbein Post Office
9am – 11am
Tuesday 17 May
Merbein Community Hub
10am – 12.30pm
Wednesday 18 May
Merbein Community Club
5pm – 8pm
Tuesday 24 May
Merbein town centre
10am – 1.30pm
Cr Healy said key to the success of any community plan was community input.
“This is a grassroots approach to planning and development, ensuring the community’s needs are being recognised and responded to by local government, and that residents are supported to be proactive in shaping their own future,” she said.
“The more people who are actively involved in shaping the Merbein Community Plan, the more accurately it will reflect residents’ wants, needs and aspirations, which is ultimately the end goal here.
“Any time we renew a Community Plan it’s a powerful opportunity for communities to re-examine how they would like their town to take shape in the next few years.
“And there’s almost no limit to what can be raised – everything from education, public safety and transport, through to public facilities, health services, town pride and community involvement.
“Council Plans are also powerful tools to help identify priority projects and key partners to help make residents’ aspirations and visions a reality, and are unique to each town.”
