Michael Smith’s Great Adventure, In Conversation

Northern Territory Major Events Company

Internationally-renowned adventurer Michael Smith will share thrilling travel and flying stories at an ‘In Conversation’ event on Wednesday, 11 December at 7.30pm at the Darwin Entertainment Centre.

The evening will be hosted by Ali Burton and will share Smith’s most recent journey, a modern day retracing of the 1919 Great Air Race flight, which he has undertaken in honour of the race’s centenary year.

Smith took off from London on 19 November and will complete his Great Air Race flight by landing in Darwin on 10 December, 2019, exactly 100 years to the day that the Great Air Race was won.

Much like the original Great Air Race, Smith’s journey has been filled with extraordinary adventures, breathtaking sights and of course delays and set-backs.

Over 22 days, Smith has flown his Southern Sun SeaBear aircraft from London, across Europe, Africa, The Middle East and throughout Asia, before reaching Australia.

During his flight, Smith has been recreating photographs from the original race which were published in a 1921 edition of a ³Ô¹ÏÍøÕ¾ Geographic Magazine.

His recreated photos will be an insightful and entertaining part of the In Conversation event, allowing Smith to share, not only his journey, but also how much the world has changed in 100 years.

In Conversation with Michael Smith is the final stop in Darwin’s Great Air Race Centenary commemorative program of events.

Tickets to the event are free, but bookings are essential and limited to two seats per booking. Book your tickets at www.yourcentre.com.au.
