Mike Reynolds has been appointed Western Australia’s Commissioner for Corrective Services for a five-year term.
Commissioner Reynolds’ appointment, by the Department of Justice Director General Dr Adam Tomison, follows a 35-year career in corrections.
He worked his way through the ranks from prison officer to leadership positions across South Australian prisons, before taking the helm of the State’s Corrections Security and Emergency Management team.
Commissioner Reynolds moved to WA in 2019 to become Deputy Commissioner of Adult Male Prisons, and then Operational Support.
He served as Acting Commissioner from November 2020 following the retirement of his predecessor.
Reporting to the Director General, the Commissioner for Corrective Services oversees the operation and management of WA’s prisons, work camps and youth detention centre.
Responsibilities of the role also include Adult Community Corrections and Youth Justice Services, which supervise offenders under orders in the community.

“The Commissioner has ably navigated the State’s prisons through a challenging period in which the COVID-19 pandemic has put unprecedented pressures on the custodial estate.
“I look forward to him building on the improvements made in the performance of our correctional facilities and services.”
