Mildura To Shine With Epic Light Installation

Mildura’s Lock Island is set to host a spectacular art installation that will attract thousands of visitors from across Australia – providing a significant boost to the local economy and backed by the Allan Labor Government.

Minister for Tourism, Sport and Major Events Steve Dimopoulos visited Mildura this week to discuss plans for the Trail of Lights project, which is due to be unveiled in April 2025.

Supported by the Labor Government’s Regional Tourism Infrastructure Projects investment, the Trail of Lights installation is an epic light display that will feature will see 12,500 ‘firefly lights’ light up Lock Island on the Murray River, with a trail that visitors can wander through at their own pace.

Designed by renowned artist Bruce Munro, Trail of Lights will be complemented by another nearby installation by the artist on the New South Wales side of the Murray River, which will be called Fiber Optic Symphonic Orchestra (FOSO).

Mr Munro, who is famed for his innovative and iconic installations that incorporate natural landscapes, also designed the world-famous Field of Light installation in Uluru, Northern Territory.

Trail of Lights is being delivered by the Mildura Rural City Council with support from the Labor Government.

This project will add to the growing list of attractions along the Murray River, including the redevelopment of the Powerhouse Precinct on the Mildura riverfront.
