Practical completion is set for the end of the month for new aged accommodation units at Brunswick River Cottages, supported by a $1.6 million McGowan Government investment.
Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan and Murray-Wellington MLA Robyn Clarke were today given a sneak preview of the eight rentals, ahead of residents moving into their new homes from Monday June 1.
All new cottages have been snapped up, with a waiting list established as people get in line for the opportunity to continue enjoying regional life.
The McGowan Government has prioritised meeting the aged accommodation needs of regional Western Australia to allow older residents to age in the communities they call home.
Through the Regional Aged Accommodation Program, the McGowan Government is supporting aged accommodation projects in the South-West, Great Southern, Peel, Wheatbelt and Mid-West.
The Brunswick River Cottage expansion received $1.5 million through the program as well as a further $100,000 from the McGowan Government through the Local Projects, Local Jobs program.
In the South-West, the McGowan Government has also allocated funding towards the Armstrong Village Project in Dunsborough and the Bridge Street Affordable Housing Project in Donnybrook.
As stated by Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:
“Our investment in regional aged accommodation is opening the doors for more people to continue living close to their home communities as they age.
“The Brunswick River Cottages is a good project that builds on the stock of affordable accommodation for older residents.
“This project has created work opportunities for South West business, with Picton-based Civilcon Construction leading construction on the new units at Brunswick River Cottages.
“A long list of local subcontractors and suppliers were engaged from earthworks through to mechanical services and supply of hardware and materials.”
As stated by Murray-Wellington MLA Robyn Clarke:
“This is an important project for the Brunswick Junction community that has been many years in the making and I congratulate everyone who has been involved in getting it to this stage.
“I would especially like to highlight the efforts of the Brunswick River Cottages management committee for its valuable contribution to the project, along with the local community and Shire of Harvey, and support of the South West Development Commission.
“I am sure the new residents will enjoy living here and being able to enjoy community life in Brunswick Junction, one of the many great towns in the South-West region.”
