Queensland’s network of thriving neighbourhood and community centres have the chance to share in $1 million to buy vital equipment and host events and activities, thanks to the Thriving Queensland Communities grants – Round three.
Minister for Communities Coralee O’Rourke today (11 March) announced the opening of the grants round, which has already provided more than $1.4 million to the state’s neighbourhood and community centres over the past two years.
“The grants round helps centres buy vital equipment such as computers, run training programs for staff and volunteers, and host events, activities and programs to benefit the local community,” Mrs O’Rourke said.
“Grants of up to $25,000 each are up for grabs.
“I encourage Palaszczuk Government-funded neighbourhood and community centres to apply for funding under this year’s grants.”
Last year, 72 neighbourhood and community centres across Queensland shared in more than $800,000 under the Thriving Queensland Communities grants – Round two.
For example, re-roofing of the Sandgate Community Centre received $20,000 to upgrade its roof and the Maryborough and Bowen neighbourhood centres received $19,510 and $15,400 respectively to purchase new equipment.
Mrs O’Rourke said the Palaszczuk Government was committed to ensuring that the state’s network of 124 neighbourhood and community centres are supported to keep Queensland communities connected.
“We know how important these centres are for their local communities, providing services and support to some of the most vulnerable Queenslanders,” she said.
“Supporting the state’s neighbourhood and community centres is the cornerstone of our vision for thriving communities in Queensland.
“We want all Queenslanders, regardless of their personal circumstances, to be included and able to participate in their communities, be resilient and enjoy social and economic wellbeing.”
Grant applications close on Tuesday 7 April at 2pm.
