The Millmerran Showgrounds has been enacted as an Evacuation Centre following a bushfire in the Region.
After opening the centre last night, Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) Chair Paul Antonio said the centre would continue to operate following the latest bushfire warning (Watch and Act: Prepare to Leave) for residents in the Millmerran Woods, Cypress Gardens and Millmerran Downs areas.
“Up to this point we’re aware of three structures which have been impacted and considering the unpredictable nature of fires, we’re asking residents to remain cautious and to stay up-to-date with all warnings being issued,” he said.
“While it’s sad to hear of these structures being impacted, our number one priority is for the safety of our people.
“There are forecasts for multiple wind directions today and overnight so please be careful if you are in one of these impacted areas as conditions could get worse quickly.
“There is no need whatsoever for anyone to take any unnecessary risks at the moment and if residents do see any fire flare-ups, they should to call Triple 0 (000) immediately.
“When it is safe to do so, residents should also check their homes and properties for any signs of damage, particularly for ash on rain harvesting roof tops as it may affect water quality.
“The team at QFES (Queensland Fire and Emergency Services) have done a remarkable job so far and will continue to take the lead on keeping our community safe.”
