The report reflects a broad acknowledgment among Australians of mining’s role in supporting the transition to a sustainable future. Key findings demonstrate that:
- 73% of Australians recognise that access to critical minerals is essential for achieving net zero emissions
- 71% agree that mining plays a vital role in the Australian way of life
- 72% believe that mining will underpin Australia’s future prosperity.
The industry is taking proactive steps to support continual improvement in its environmental and social performance with initiatives such as the Towards Sustainable Mining (TSM) program, which enhances transparency and strengthens community engagement across the sector.
The MCA recognises the need to continue building trust and engaging transparently with communities. Australians understand the essential role of mining in driving the energy transition, and there is a shared commitment to deepen our partnerships with communities to ensure this transition is both responsible and inclusive.
