Minister for Agriculture, Regional NSW and Western NSW, Tara Moriarty stopped by the Griffith Livestock Marketing Centre (Griffith Saleyards) to announce an additional $1.4 million of funding from the NSW Government to support eligible saleyards to prepare for the mandatory roll out of Sheep and Goat electronic identification (eID).
The purpose of implementing eID devices at Saleyards is to enhance the traceability and biosecurity within the livestock industry in line with NSW Department of Primary Industries (DPI). This project is fully funded under the NSW Sheep and Goat eID Rebate Scheme.
Minister for Agriculture, Regional NSW and Western NSW, Tara Moriarty, Member for Murray Helen Dalton, Griffith Livestock Marketing Centre Team Leader, Les Warren and Griffith City Council Mayor, Doug Curran were all in attendance.
Griffith City Council Mayor, Councillor Doug Curran, stated “whilst the funding announcement won’t benefit the Griffith saleyards, it is great that smaller regional saleyards will see the benefit. It was also a great opportunity to discuss plans for the Griffith saleyards that we will be seeking State Government support with in the near future.”
The NSW Government also has a $38 million support package for producers, agents, saleyards and processors. This package supports the industry-wide transition and implementation of NSW’s robust biosecurity measures.
